The Process of Making Compostable Gloves

Blending
The first step in making compostable gloves is blending the modified biopolymer with a color master batch to create a uniform mixture. Biopolymers like corn starch, PLA, and PBAT are used in the form of bioplastic beads. The biopolymers are weighed and measured in the correct proportion and blended in a mixing chamber.

Melting
The blended mixture is then melted in an extruder at temperatures ranging from 130-180ᵒC. This process melts the biopolymer and makes it easier to mold into the desired shape.

Pumping air
After the biopolymer is melted, the air is pumped vertically through the film to create a tube-shaped film. The diameter of the tube is determined by the required width of the compostable gloves.

Passing through rollers
The bioplastic tube is then cooled down slowly by passing through several rollers. This process forms sheets that eventually become compostable gloves. The rollers ensure that the film is of uniform thickness and width, which is important for the subsequent steps.

Printing
Printing brand logos or other information is a requirement for most compostable gloves. However, it’s important to note that complex patterns cannot be printed on these gloves. Only simple 1-2 color logos can be printed during the production process using rollers.

Heat Sealing & Cutting
The gloves are created by heat sealing and cutting the compostable film rolls. The heat sealing and cutting machine is set up according to the desired length of the gloves, and the compostable film is rolled out to that length. Once the required length is obtained, the machine cuts and seals the gloves at the same time.

Packing
After the heat sealing and cutting process, the compostable gloves are packed according to client requirements. The end product is ready to use and can be safely disposed of in a compost bin or other organic waste disposal methods, where it will decompose naturally without harming the environment.
