BPI Certification – ASTM D6400
The products made by GobioPack comply with ASTM D6400 specifications as certified by BPI. In the industry, ASTM D6400 certification is the gold standard for marketing claims about biodegradability or compostability. North American ASTM D6400 is equivalent to European EN 13432. It is a requirement in both specifications that biodegradable/ compostable products decompose completely over a specified period of time, leaving no harmful residues behind.
In order to receive certification, specific results must be achieved according to ASTM D6400. Some manufacturers promote their products by referencing other ASTM standards instead of ASTM D6400. ASTM 6954 or ISO 14855 are typically used by these companies to prove their biodegradability. In fact, a product’s disintegration ability or heavy metal content is not given a pass/fail requirement under ASTM 6954 or ISO 14855.
Currently, ASTM D6400 is the most comprehensive test of a compostable/biodegradable product’s decomposition capabilities.
OK Compost Industrial & Home Certification
OK Compost Industrial
Products featuring the OK compost INDUSTRIAL label are guaranteed as biodegradable in an industrial composting plant. This applies to all components, inks and additives. The sole reference point for the certification program is the harmonized EN 13432: 2000 standard.
OK Compost Home
Many of our products are also certified by OK Compost HOME (European) for disposal in home backyard compost settings. It means they are complete biodegradability in the light of specific requirements, even in your garden compost heap.
Seedling Certification - EN13432
Standard EN 13432 is a harmonized technical standard, meaning it has been published in the Official Gazette of the European Community and must therefore be implemented in Europe by national standardization bodies. In addition, materials that comply with this standard are presumed to comply with European Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste.
ABA Certification - AS 4736 & AS 5810
AS 4736
Australian Standard AS 4736–2006 covers companies and individuals wishing to verify their claims of conformance to Biodegradable Plastics suitable for commercial composting. The AS 4736-2006 Standard – Biodegradable plastics—Biodegradable plastics suitable for composting and other microbial treatment, specifies requirements and procedures to determine the compostability, or anaerobic biodegradation, of plastics by addressing biodegradability, disintegration during biological treatment, effect on the biological treatment process and effect on the quality of the resulting compost. This Standard provides a basis to allow the labeling of materials or products made from plastics as ‘compostable’, for use in such facilities as municipal or commercial composters. The AS 4736-2006 Standard applies to the processing of plastics in controlled waste treatment plants.
AS 5810
Australian Standard AS 5810-2010 covers companies and individuals wishing to verify their claims of conformance to Biodegradable Plastics suitable for home composting.The Home Composting logo ensures that these products and materials are easily recognized and food waste or organic waste contained in these certified products can be easily separated out and diverted from landfill.
