The Process of Making Compostable Zip Bags

Blending
The first step in making compostable zip bags is blending the modified biopolymer with a color master batch to create a uniform mixture. Biopolymers like corn starch, PLA, and PBAT are used in the form of bioplastic beads.

Melting
The blended mixture is then melted in an extruder at temperatures ranging from 130-180ᵒC. This process melts the biopolymer and makes it easier to mold into the desired shape.

Pumping air
After the biopolymer is melted, the air is pumped vertically through the film to create a tube-shaped film. The diameter of the tube is determined by the required width of the compostable zipper bag.

Passing through rollers
The bioplastic tube is then cooled down slowly by passing through several rollers. This process forms sheets that eventually become compostable ziplock bags.

Printing
Most compostable food storage bags require printing with brand logos or other information. A simple 1-2 color logo can be printed while passing through rollers. However, complex patterns with more than 2 colors must be printed on a printing machine. Water-based ink is used for printing, which is also compostable, to ensure the end product is still eco-friendly.

Heat Sealing & Cutting
The bags are created by heat sealing and cutting the compostable film rolls. The heat sealing and cutting machine is set up according to the desired length of the bag, and the compostable film is rolled out to that length. Once the required length is obtained, the machine cuts and seals the bag at the same time. We can design the compostable bag in a variety of shapes, depending on the needs of the purchaser or the intended use.

Packing
After the heat sealing and cutting process, the compostable Zipper bags are packed according to your clients’ requirements. The end product is ready to use and can be safely disposed of in a compost bin or other organic waste disposal methods, where it will decompose naturally without harming the environment.
